At some point in a person's life, they have to stand up for what they believe. Whether it be an idea, a person, or a rule, we all find that there is something we must fight for.
I started this campaign with a focus of bringing attention to the Alcohol Ban. However, groups in our community weren't able to get this issue placed on the upcoming ballot. Therefore, I have now committed my campaign to discussing issues that other candidates won't address, mainly because they fear isolated part of the people who vote for them. Since I'm the "Kamizaze Candidate", and probably won't win this election anyway, I don't mind isolating myself from certain voters, if it's the right thing to do. I've lived in San Diego for 14 years. I love my town. I love the people, and I love the beach. For most of my 14 years here, I've loved having the opportunity to go to the beach with friends and have a few drinks. Let's face it; a little alcohol can go a long way toward having a good time.
However, a few years ago some of our politicians decided that it would be best if they told everyone they couldn't have alcohol on the beaches anymore. They put this to a vote to the whole city, and a lot of people who don't even live near the beaches made the decision for everyone. Rather than having a reasonable response to this (such as discussing a ban on major holidays, or having permits), many residents of our city made a decision which impacted everyone without full knowledge of the situation.
This is why I have decided to become involved. I can't watch our city make decisions like this without having my voice heard. I believe that every time the government encroaches on our freedom, they do a disservice to us all. This, of course, has to be balanced with the needs of the many and the safety of the populace. I am of the conviction that we can have safety AND alcohol. The vast majority of people on our beaches just want to have a good time and enjoy all our city and the ocean have to offer, free of persecution by local authorities. There wasn't enough local action to get this issue put on the upcoming ballot; but I hope to see it there, front and center, in the next election cycle.
So I am now running on a platform dedicated to a honest and real discussion of issues that other politicans are forced to avoid. Many times, these politicians are forced either to the left or right on the political spectrum by voters. Therefore, someone with honest, real, middle of the road views never gets a chance. I'm here to make sure that "middle of the road" perspective gets heard. To see more details about my ideas, just click on the tab to the left.
